Interpreting Search Results
GradSift's algorithm does a lot of work behind the scenes. In simple terms, it intreprets a candidate's background the same way as an experience graduate recruiter would. That's looking at a student's degree discipline(s), grades, university attended and whether the degree is undergraduate, a dual degree or post-grad. But it goes well beyond academics. It assesses students for behavioural skills like leadership, initiative, interpersonal skills and achievements. It also looks at the relevance of a student's work experience and background to the employer.
This is already factored in to the ranked student results you see. By creating your own role profile, you narrow that list down to students ready to work in your role's location.
Students will score differently for each of the three categories. A student could be a "pass grade" student academically but have really strong and relevant work experience and leadership skills. Or another student may be very strong academically but has little work experience (career or non-career related).
This is where the hiring manager uses their judgement to say what's most important for their role and team.
GradSift is not saying to hire the top tanked canddiate. It gives you information to help you make your decision. So don't discount students towards the end of the list.
